Our little Chess man....

One of the new things Ethan decided to do this year was join the chess club at school.  One of the generous mothers gives of her time each week to help run this small club where the children learn about chess and enjoy playing each other.

Ethan was very excited to come home a month ago and tell us about the Utah State Chess Championships and that he could go.  Most important of all, there would be PIZZA for lunch!

Well, the day finally arrived and he was so excited.  He played 6 matches against many other second graders across the state and out of 6 he won 1, drew 1 and lost the others.  Most importantly he had a lot of fun, got a medal and had a great time playing outside in the beautiful spring weather between matches.

24 students from Rock Canyon Elementary competed with over 600 kids at the Utah State Elementary Chess Championships.  Our team finished 16th overall out of 61 schools with teams so they did a great job overall!

We're so glad he able to have experiences like this and  for the caring mother who gives of her time to help the kids have this experience.
